Coromandel Coast

Coromandel Coast, coastal area, south-eastern India, between Point Calimere and the mouth of the Krishna River on the Bay of Bengal, in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh states. The coast is low and sandy, with a heavy surf and no natural harbours. The construction of large breakwaters has made Chennai an important seaport. Many hurricanes occur in the area during the north-eastern monsoon period, between October and April.
