Marne, river, north-eastern France, rising south of Langres on the Langres Plateau, and flowing generally west until, after a course of 523 km (325 mi), it joins the Seine River near Paris. Château-Thierry, Épernay, Châlons-en-Champagne, and Meaux are situated on its banks. During World War I two famous battles were fought near the Marne.
