Neo-Classical Style

During the period of the 18th century when the Neo-Classical style was popular in Europe and America, admiration for the art of ancient Greece and Rome was expressed in artistic terms in two ways. On the one hand it was reflected in the formal elements borrowed directly from the architecture and sculpture of the Greeks and the Romans, and on the other, in the development of new structural and decorative styles inspired by the artistic canons of the classical world.
