| Alexandre Dumas (fils) was the illegitimate son of the great French novelist and playwright Alexandre Dumas (père), who wrote such famous novels as The Three Musketeers and The Count of Monte-Cristo. Dumas fils was a playwright and novelist in his own right. His most famous work is the novel La Dame aux Camélias (1848), otherwise known as Camille, which he also adapted as a play. It tells the story of a Parisian courtesan and her doomed love for a young man, whom she must reject for the sake of propriety. | ||||||
