Ibrahim Rugova

Ibrahim Rugova, leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), addresses his supporters at a meeting before the legislative elections of November 2001. These were the first elections held in Kosovo since the end of the war, in 1999, and the placing of this old autonomous province of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia under the administration of the United Nations. The LDK won the highest percentage of the votes and Rugova went on, in March 2002, to become the president of Kosovo.
