Tarkovsky
In the early 1960s, Andrey Tarkovsky was at the forefront of a new generation of Soviet film-makers. However his work, rich with religious references and symbols, quickly became subject to the censure of the ruling Communist authorities. His principal films include Andrei Rublev (made between 1964 and 1966), Solaris (1972), The Stalker (1979), and The Sacrifice (1986).
