Imperial Camel Corps
The Imperial Camel Corps was established in early 1916, and included soldiers from Australia, Britain, India, and New Zealand. It was based near Cairo in Egypt, and fought in some key battles against the Ottoman Empire, which was allied with Germany during World War I. Among the engagements with which it was involved was the Battle of Beersheba, or the Third Battle of Gaza, which opened the way for the Allied forces to seize Jerusalem from the Ottomans in late 1917.
