The rugged peaks of the Austrian Alps tower above broad valleys in Austria's province of Tirol. The Austrian Alps cover nearly two-thirds of the country's total land area and the average elevation is about 910 m (3,000 ft). The highest peak in the country, Grossglockner, rises to a height of 3,797 m (12,457 ft) above sea level.
