Capri’s Blue Grotto

Capri’s Blue Grotto
Deep blue water surrounds this tiny, yet mountainous limestone island in the Bay of Naples. The gulf is famous for its many fascinating grottoes and sea caverns, of which the Blue Grotto, or Grotta Azzurra, is the best known. Sunlight refracted through the water inside the cave generates ever-changing shades of blue that seem to radiate from beneath the water's surface, creating a spectacular effect. While the sea remains calm, boats can enter the grotto, which is large enough to fit a number of small craft. Capri and its two small towns can be reached by steamer or hydrofoil from Naples.
