Judy Garland as Dorothy

Although she had already appeared in a number of films, the American actress Judy Garland became a major Hollywood film star when she portrayed Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz in 1939. She went on to make many more films, most of them featuring her talents as a singer and dancer. In the 1950s she had a successful career as a concert performer, appearing as a solo act.
