David

David
David, a marble sculpture by the Italian artist Michelangelo, was carved between 1501 and 1504. Unlike earlier versions, in which the hero is depicted triumphant over Goliath, David calmly awaits his opponent. This piece is influenced by Classical Greece but has an emotional intensity unknown until the Renaissance.
