Massachusetts is known for its many excellent universities and colleges. Founded in 1636, Harvard University, located in Cambridge, Massachusetts, is the oldest and one of the most esteemed institutions of higher learning in the United States. Shown here is University Hall and part of Harvard Yard. Once filled with grazing sheep, Harvard Yard, the central area of the campus, is now open to pedestrians only.
