Flag of the Cisalpine Republic

Flag of the Cisalpine Republic
The three colours of the Italian flag were chosen by the Italian radicals who were united under Emperor Napoleon I in 1796. The tricolour was then adopted for the flag of the Cisalpine Republic. In the Cisalpine flag, a Roman fasces (the traditional sign of the Roman magistrates) was introduced on the tricolour along with the Phrygian bonnet, a symbol of revolution and liberty.
