| In 1914 Luigi Cadorna, General and Marshal of Italy, prepared to lead his country into battle. He directed military operations over the course of the 11 battles of Isonzo, gaining notable successes. However, Cadorna could not contain the counter-attack from Austria which ended in Italy’s defeat at the Battle of Caporetto. Cadorna was held reponsible for this defeat, and was forced to pass his command to General Armando Diaz. | ||||||
