Abraham Mosque, Syria
South of the modern city of Ḩalab, the Maqam Ibrahim, or Abraham Mosque, is built over the rock where, according to legend, Abraham rested while leaving the city. He is reputed to have milked his cow on the citadel—now the city’s historic centre—giving rise to its current name from the Arabic word halib, meaning “milk”.
