In July 1943 Italian dictator Benito Mussolini was removed from control of the Fascist Party and arrested. In this speech recorded shortly after Mussolini's arrest, President Franklin D. Roosevelt calls for the "unconditional surrender" of the new government. However, Nazi Germany took control of Italy, delaying the fall of Italy to the Allies until 1945.
