Greek Warfare

Greek Warfare
The hoplites were the infantry of the Greek army and were most effective when fighting in formation. As seen on this wine pitcher of the 7th century bc, they wore a distinctive type of helmet that covered the cheeks and nose, a breastplate, and greaves (to protect the shins), and carried a circular or oval shield, a short sword, and a long spear.
