The Birth of a Nation

The Birth of a Nation
D. W. Griffith’s American Civil War epic The Birth of a Nation (1915) was based on the novel The Clansman by Thomas Dixon. It is widely considered to be the most influential film ever made, inspiring generations of later film-makers. It was commercially successful for Griffith, especially in view of the relatively high prices (as much as $2 in some cases) that audiences of the time were prepared to pay to see it.
