Ancient Oak, Sherwood Forest

Sherwood Forest in Nottinghamshire, central England, was formerly a royal forest. It is famous as the hideout of legendary English outlaw Robin Hood during the late 14th or early 15th century. Of the original forest, only a few stands remain. Shown here is an oak tree in the forest with props supporting its heavy branches.
