Protestant Europe in the 16th Century
During the 16th century, Europe underwent several drastic changes as Protestant reform movements swept through the continent. Though the church launched a strong Counter-Reformation, it never managed to regain the territory and spiritual supremacy it lost during the 16th and 17th centuries.
