New Lava

Red-hot lava flows from a volcano on Réunion, an island off the coast of Africa in the Indian Ocean. The lava wrinkles because the exterior and interior of the flow cool at different rates. The surface of the flow cools relatively quickly, forming a skin that becomes deformed as the hotter lava moves underneath.
