Three Faces of Socialism

Three Faces of Socialism
Socialism took many forms in its early years. Following the death of Karl Marx in 1883, many socialists differed on how Marx’s communist utopia could be attained. Karl Kautsky (left), Rosa Luxemburg (middle), and Eduard Bernstein (right) held divergent ideas regarding the implementation of socialism. Rosa Luxemburg travelled to Warsaw (then under Russian control) to participate in the 1905 Russian Revolution. Bernstein, however, believed communism would evolve naturally, with no need for revolution. Kautsky, although originally in favour of revolutionary methods, adopted more liberal views in his attempts to maintain the purity of Marxism.
