Giuseppe Mazzini
Giuseppe Mazzini, the celebrated Italian revolutionary, founded the Young Italy society, a group that fought for the formation of an Italian republic. While in France in 1832, Mazzini was sentenced to death in absentia, and spent much of the remainder of his life in exile. His writings were instrumental in promoting Italian unification.
