| The Black Shirts, so named because of the black shirts that made up part of their uniform, were a fascist paramilitary squad that was formed in Italy in 1919 under the dictator Benito Mussolini. They played an aggressive role in the suppression of opposition to fascism in Italy and forced Victor Emmanuel III, King of Italy, to bow to Mussolini’s regime. | ||||||
