Harlem

Harlem
Residents of Harlem play a game of basketball in front of a row of tenement houses. Located in northern Manhattan, roughly between 110th and 168th streets, the New York City neighbourhood of Harlem is home to a predominantly black and Puerto Rican population. During the 1920s, black culture flourished here in what is known as the Harlem Renaissance. Later the area experienced poverty and housing conditions declined, although recently efforts have been made to restore buildings and reinvigorate the area.
