American film director, producer, and screenwriter Francis Ford Coppola sits behind the camera as director on the set of The Godfather, Part III (1990). A film director maintains artistic control over all components of film-making, including taking charge of the actors and technicians on the set and providing the guiding vision for the final conceptualization of the film. Coppola received a total of four Academy Awards and three nominations for the Godfather trilogy, which also includes The Godfather (1972) and The Godfather, Part II (1974).
