Henri Philippe Pétain
Henri Pétain was a French military hero in World War I. During World War II, Pétain became chief of state at Vichy, the French-occupied territory under German control. He ruled as a dictator with the consent of the Nazi regime while in his 80s, suspending the constitution and deporting Jews to German concentration camps. He later stood trial for treason, and was sentenced to life imprisonment.
