Joseph Conrad

Joseph Conrad
Joseph Conrad, the Polish-born novelist, is one of the great writers of the late 19th century. His work engages with moral questions and human vulnerability, most famously in Heart of Darkness (1902), in which a tale of imperial activity in the Congo casts into stark relief the barbarism at the heart of colonialism, and the fragility of civilized codes of behaviour. Another of his best-known works is Lord Jim (1900), the story of a man who spends his life attempting to reconcile his cowardly actions during a shipwreck.
