Sinai Peninsula
The Sinai Peninsula is a hot, arid region in north-eastern Egypt, extending from the Mediterranean Sea south to a point where the Gulf of Suez and the Gulf of Aqaba meet. Israel gained control of the Sinai during the Six-Day War in 1967. In 1979, however, Egypt and Israel signed a peace treaty that required Israel to withdraw from the peninsula.
