| Prussia began as the German district of Brandenburg. It became the Kingdom of Prussia in 1701, and a strong army was created. By 1871, Prussian King Wilhelm I had made the German Empire the mightiest in Europe. Prussian soldiers were the best educated and most well trained of any European army. | ||||||
