| In 768, Charlemagne ruled the Frankish kingdom with his brother Carloman. Carloman died in 771, thus making Charlemagne sole ruler. He then conquered Saxony, Lombardy, Bavaria, and other areas east and west, to enlarge his empire. | ||||||
