Maksim Gorky

Maksim Gorky
Russian writer Maksim Gorky won immense popularity for his vivid portrayals of the Russian lower class. Active in Marxism and Bolshevism, Gorky helped to found Socialist Realism in 1932, a literary movement in which writers analysed society through the lens of revolutionary development. Gorky used his considerable influence among the Bolshevik leaders to assist struggling Russian writers, such as Vsevolod Ivanov and Konstantin Fedin.
