| Talleyrand was a French statesman and diplomat. He served as Napoleon’s foreign minister, but later left the emperor to help restore the French monarchy. Though France had been ravaged by Napoleon’s wars and defeated by Britain and its allies, Talleyrand’s diplomatic skill at the Congress of Vienna helped restore some of his country’s status in Europe. | ||||||
