Clement Attlee
Clement Attlee served as the leader of Great Britain’s Labour Party from 1935 to 1955. He was elected prime minister from 1945 to 1951. Under Attlee’s leadership, the Bank of England, all utilities, railways, and coal-mining industries were nationalized, and the National Health Service was born. The British colonies of India, Pakistan, Burma, and Ceylon were granted independence.
