Yuri Andropov
Yuri Andropov served as the Soviet Communist Party general secretary from 1982 until his death in 1984. He succeeded Leonid Brezhnev. Before assuming the top Soviet post, he was the chairman of the KGB, the Soviet secret police, from 1967 to 1982.
