Yugoslavia, 1946-1991
From 1946 to 1991 Yugoslavia comprised six republics. In 1991 three of the republics seceded, creating Croatia, Slovenia, and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia; the republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina declared its independence in 1992. The remaining two republics, Serbia and Montenegro, united to form a new republic in 1992, known as the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (Serbia and Montenegro).
