Yves Bonnefoy
Yves Bonnefoy, who was born in Tours in 1923, established himself in the post-war period as one of France's leading poets. Having studied mathematics and philosophy, he became involved with the Surrealist movement in Paris. His best-known collection is Du Mouvement et de l'Immobilité de Douve (1953, On the Motion and Immobility of Douve). In addition to poetry, he has also written on the subjects of art and literature, including works about Joan Miró and Arthur Rimbaud, and produced French translations of Shakespeare.
