| Founded in 1257, the Sorbonne soon became the most notable institution of the University of Paris. The buildings were often improved and enlarged, notably on the order of Richelieu by Jacques Lemercier between 1626 and 1642. It was completely reconstructed between 1883 and 1901. | ||||||
