The Guardian Book Awards

The Guardian newspaper makes two book awards annually. The British newspaper's main fiction prize was founded in 1965 and was relaunched in 1999 as The Guardian First Book Award. The prize, which rewards new literary talent and is now open to fiction and non-fiction works alike, is worth £10,000. Local readers' groups are involved in the shortlisting. The second award sponsored by the newspaper is The Guardian Children's Fiction Prize, which was founded in 1967. The prize is given for the best work of fiction for children aged seven and over; it is worth £1,500.
