Oil Rig, Sakhalin Island

Oil Rig, Sakhalin Island
Sakhalin Island lies in the Sea of Okhotsk and is part of south-eastern Russia. The island was divided in 1905 between Japan and the Soviet Union; in 1945 it came under the full possession of the Soviets. Oil extraction, from the vast resources at the bottom of the Sea of Okhotsk, is an important source of revenue for the island's economy.
