Telford's Menai Suspension Bridge
Thomas Telford’s suspension bridge over the Menai Strait separating the island of Anglesey from the Welsh mainland was the world’s first major suspension bridge. It was built between 1819 and 1826 as part of the road running from London through Shrewsbury to the port of Holyhead. It has a main span of 176 m (580 ft).
