The French actress Catherine Deneuve first received public attention in 1964 for her performance in Les Parapluies de Cherbourg (The Umbrellas of Cherbourg). Long considered the epitome of French elegance, in 1980 Deneuve won a César (the French equivalent of the Academy Award) for Best Actress for her work in François Truffaut’s Le Dernier Métro (The Last Metro).
