Arcadian Way, Ephesus
The town of Ephesus in Turkey was the site of an ancient Greek city situated on the west coast of Asia Minor. The Arcadian Way, shown here, is a marble street constructed during the reign of Emperor Arcadius (395-408). The street runs from middle harbour gate to the theatre, also shown. This Graeco-Roman theatre was built during the Hellenistic period. Later rulers changed the structure of the building, and the ruins remaining today appear to be completely Roman.
