Montserrat's Benedictine Monastery

Montserrat's Benedictine Monastery
The Benedictine monastery, carved into the side of Montserrat about 55 km (35 mi) north-west of Barcelona, has attracted pilgrims for more than 700 years. The site provided the inspiration for Wagner's final opera Parsifal. In addition to its stunning view and unusual setting, the monastery is known for its Escolania boys choir, which claims to be the oldest such choir in the world. The choir sings each Sunday and on special occasions.
