| The Freedom Monument, at the Shipka Pass in the Balkan Mountains, commemorates the Russian troops and Bulgarians who fought back Turkish troops on January 7, 1878, during the Russo-Turkish Wars. A short distance from the monument is a temple, built in 1902 in the style of a 17th-century Russian church in memory of the Russian soldiers who lost their lives in the conflict. | ||||||
