Freedom Monument, Shipka Pass

Freedom Monument, Shipka Pass
The Freedom Monument, at the Shipka Pass in the Balkan Mountains, commemorates the Russian troops and Bulgarians who fought back Turkish troops on January 7, 1878, during the Russo-Turkish Wars. A short distance from the monument is a temple, built in 1902 in the style of a 17th-century Russian church in memory of the Russian soldiers who lost their lives in the conflict.
