The Blue Angel

The Blue Angel
Josef von Sternberg, who directed the 1930 film Der Blaue Engel (The Blue Angel), discovered Marlene Dietrich and became her mentor for the next few years. She became instantly famous after her haunting performance as a night-club singer in the film. Emil Jannings portrayed an unworldly academic who falls in love with her.
