Jan Christiaan Smuts

Jan Christiaan Smuts
Jan Christiaan Smuts was one of the dominant political figures of South African politics during the first half of the 20th century. He was Prime Minister from 1919 to 1924 and from 1939 to 1948, and during his second administration brought South Africa into the war on the Allied side despite strong opposition from Afrikaaner nationalists who favoured neutrality.
