Thomas Mann

Thomas Mann
German-born author Thomas Mann, winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1929, wrote several novels revolving around the moral and spiritual progress of their heroes, a genre known as the Bildungsroman, or novel of personal development. The Magic Mountain, his most famous work, uses this form as the basis for a discussion of several important philosophical, cultural, and religious ideas of early 20th-century Europe.
