Painting by Wright of Derby

Painting by Wright of Derby
Intrigued by unusual lighting effects, English artist Joseph Wright of Derby often painted scenes that were illuminated by a single light source. A Philosopher Lecturing on the Orrery (In Which a Lamp Is Put In Place of the Sun), is one of his best-known works. Exhibited in 1766, it is in the Derby Museum and Art Gallery, Derby.
