Crystal Palace
The Crystal Palace, built entirely of the new industrial materials of wrought iron and sheet glass, was an impressive showcase for the achievements of the Industrial Revolution. It was designed by architect Sir Joseph Paxton for the first universal fair, the Great Exhibition of 1851. The fair drew more than 6 million visitors to see an estimated 8 miles (about 13 km) of display tables located inside the Crystal Palace.
